As a teaching assistant at Oswego High School, Betty Wills saw a need for desks first-hand and decided to fill it.
"I have certain kids in my classroom, and seeing them work from their beds or their couches, one day I was just like, 'these kids needs desks,' " said Wills.

Wills says she was inspired by a couple she saw from Cicero, who also built desks. So she got to work building the desks.
"We built 20 desks, most of them are gone, and tomorrow night we’ll make 21 desks," said Wills.
"My mom starting building these desks and I'm the extra set of hands," said her daughter Brynn Wills.
From extra hands to extra wood, Betty says the community has come together to support this initiative, receiving donations from local businesses and friends.
And when she shared what she was doing on Facebook, the larger community responded.
"I'm getting so many messages through Facebook...I don’t take any money and they can go to anybody," said Wills.
While she’s not taking money, she says the best pay is seeing students happy in their own space. And the only pay she’s asking for is that community members pay it forward.
"Kids from all over the country really need these desks while they’re learning from home. It’s a great opportunity for people to give back to the community," Brynn added.
