SDSU (3-2) at COLORADO (2-0)
KICKOFF: 3:05 p.m. at Folsom Field
TV, RADIO: The Pac-12 Network will televise the game with Ted Robinson and Yogi Roth. KOA Radio will broadcast the game with Voice of the Buffs Mark Johnson on play-by-play and Gary Barnett providing color commentary.
ON THE INTERNET: The game can be heard on the internet at CUBuffs.com or via KOA Radio website (www.850KOA.com). CUBuffs.com will also provide a live blog with continuous updates and statistics throughout the game.
THE COACHES: Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell is in his first year at the Buffs' helm. Brady Hoke, hired to the position at SDSU last winter, is in his second stint as head coach of the Aztecs. He had a 13-12 record in two seasons (2009-10) there prior to going to Michigan, where he coached for four seasons.
THE SERIES: This will be the second meeting between Colorado (2-0) and San Diego State (3-2); CU won the only previous game in 2002 by a 34-14 score in Boulder. It will be CU's latest game against a non-conference opponent since Dec. 7, 1963, when the Buffaloes lost 17-14 at Air Force in a game delayed by JFK's assassination..
WHAT'S AT STAKE: The Buffs were originally scheduled to play at USC this weekend, with the game set to determine the Pac-12 South leader. But when the Trojans were forced to cancel because of covid issues, CU and SDSU agreed to play. A victory against the Mountain West-member Aztecs would make the Buffs bowl eligible.
LAST OUTING: Colorado jumped out to a 28-9 lead over Stanford, then held on for a 35-32 win two weeks ago. San Diego State let a 21-16 halftime lead evaporate against Nevada in a 26-21 loss to the Wolf Pack last weekend.
TEAM LEADERS: Offensively, the Buffs are led by running back Jarek Broussard (308 yards, three TDs rushing in two games), quarterback Sam Noyer (512 yards, three TDs passing; 100 yards, three TDs rushing) and wide receiver Dimitri Stanley (12 catches, 192 yards, one TD). Defensively, Buffs LB Nate Landman has 26 tackles; linebacker Carson Wells has 10 tackles, a sack, two other tackles for loss, an interception and four pass breakups; safety Derrion Rakestraw had nine tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
Greg Bell leads the Aztecs with 565 yards rushing and six TDs, quarterback Carson Baker has 591 yards passing and three TDs, and wide receiver Jesse Matthews has 15 catches for 253 yards. Defensively, safety Tariq Thompson has 30 tackles and an interception and linebacker Caden McDonald has 24 tackles, including 4.5 sacks. The Aztecs have 14.5 sacks this year.
KEY MATCHUP: Colorado offensive line vs. SDSU front seven. The Aztecs have the third overall defense in the nation, giving up less than 270 yards per game. SDSU is also yielding just 15.4 points per game, eighth in the nation. If the Buffs can control the line of scrimmage and set the tempo, they will be in solid shape to pick up their third win.
UP NEXT: The Buffs are scheduled to play at Arizona next Saturday (Dec. 5), with the time to be announced Sunday.
