Three baby goats with special needs were stolen from an animal rescue near Charlotte on Friday morning. But on Sunday morning, after a weekend of worrying and searching, the baby goats appeared at the house of one of the rescue's staff.

"I just woke up to find the all the goats at my house. I wasn't really expecting them," wrote the staff member on social media.

The baby goats' special needs required them to have specific medications – part of why the need to find them quickly was so urgent. One baby goat reportedly has horrible gastrointestinal issues, and they need veterinary care and a few days to rest.

"They have been through enough in the last couple of days and we just want to assess their medical condition and let things calm down," a staff member wrote on social media.

The organization shared a video of a happy baby goat in a 'goat-wheelchair' device, wiggling and wagging its tail wildly, happy to be safe at home.

A desperate search for stolen baby goats

On Friday, volunteers said they learned one of their volunteer transporters, which had been recruited to transfer the three baby goats to other animal rescues for their specialized care, told Carolina Waterfowl Rescue that she intends to keep the baby goats herself, according to officials from the rescue.

She said she "never delivered them and said she plans to keep them," said a volunteer in a statement. "They are still legal property of CWR and another rescue."

According to the statement, desperate rescue staff filed a police report when they could not reach the volunteer who had the babies.

The rescue is pleading for the public's help to locate these baby goats, who urgently need specialized care and medications.

On Saturday evening the organization posted on social media, "I know you all are patiently waiting an update about the current situation at hand, but unfortunately the babies are still missing. We still have no idea where she is keeping the babies."

Worse, they wrote, "We have no idea how they are doing, or even if they’re still alive. At this point we are desperate to find them and get them home safe."

On social media, a volunteer wrote, "I am just physically ill tonight thinking about what these guys are going through living in the back of this van not getting any medical care."

The organization was looking into hiring trackers and private investigators, and asking for the public to contact them if they have any information about the baby goats, when the baby goats were suddenly returned home.

Carolina Waterfowl Rescue said they will drop all charges and remove all social media posts if the babies are just returned safely.
