BARABOO (WKOW) -- A line of cars every Wednesday night in Baraboo has become an unfortunate sign of the times.

"Before the pandemic, we were averaging 250-300 households every month," explains Shannon Howley from the 'Beyond Blessed Pantry'. "In April, we served over 1,500 households."

The pantry has answered the call. They are dishing out an estimated 20,000-30,000 pounds of food every week to families in need from Sauk, Adams, Columbia, Juneau and Marquette counties. Howley has rallied an army of about 70 volunteers to make sure every car that arrives will leave with a load of food.

"We had more volunteers come in. Obviously, there was some people out of work. So, there was the ability for some people to jump in who hadn't jumped in before."

Finding enough food to keep up with the demand has been a challenge. Another challenge has been finding a place to store it. Beyond Blessed is currently borrowing a refrigeration trailer for perishable items.

"I really want a permanent solution," says Howley. "At this point, it's not a want. It's a need."

Howley has launched a campaign to raise $38,000 to purchase a walk-in freezer and cooler. The campaign just started a week ago. An anonymous donor jump-started the drive with a $10,000 donation. For donation information you can visit: https://www.bbpantry.org/
