MADISON (WKOW) -- People from all different backgrounds are flocking to food pantries since the pandemic hit, creating a challenge for food banks across the state struggling to meet the needs in the community.
Starting Thursday, WKOW is partnering with Community Action Coalition to collect food and raise money to make sure those with food insecurities during this pandemic won't go hungry.
Many of you ask how you can help and on Thursday there are plenty of ways. Next time you shop at Hy-Vee, Metcalfe's, Woodmans, Miller and Sons or Capitol Centre Market consider buying a few extra items to drop off in their donation bins.
"Makes us feel a part of the community and we like to help out any way we can," said Tom Sauer, store manager at Capitol Centre Market.
Pantries say there's a big demand for canned meat, fruit and vegetables. Everything donated will help people across southern Wisconsin to help put food on the table during these challenging times.
If you don't have plans to go to the grocery store you can also donate with cash to help fill the need in the community. The food drive lasts until the end of the month.
