The Rule 5 Draft is one of the most exciting days across baseball, especially for the rebuilding and talent-seeking Texas Rangers. But for many young stud prospects, it’s a day full of anxiety.
These are the parameters for eligible players:
“Players signed at age 18 or younger need to be added to their club’s 40-Man roster within five seasons or they become eligible for the Rule 5 Draft. Players who signed at age 19 or older need to be protected within four seasons.”
The likes of Andy Ibáñez, Curtis Terry, Yonny Hernandez and Joe Barlow were all Rule 5 eligible (again) this off-season, but are all seeing big league time.
With that being said, these are the players the Texas Rangers must add to the 40-man roster this offseason, or else they’ll be at risk of losing these players to other organizations. And the last thing the Rangers can afford to do is forfeit promising young talent during a rebuild.
