GREENFORD – Green Township trustees have given approval for the township administrator to seek estimates to resurface a part of the parking lot at the administration complex.
Trustees this week granted permission to township administrator/fire chief Todd Baird to gather cost estimates to resurface the parking lot between the fire hall and salt storage facility off Lisbon Road south of state Route 165.
Also at the meeting, Baird noted the fire department is ready to start providing fire and EMS services to the entire village of Washingtonville, including the Columbiana County portion south of state Route 14. Trustees last month approved a contract to provide the service at an annual cost of $9,005 per year starting Sept. 1.
Baird, acting on behalf of the trustees, presented the option to Washingtonville officials in March, suggesting his department could provide the service at the same $10,000 annual cost the village was paying Leetonia to provide for just the south side. The village had been paying the township whatever possible through its fire fund to cover the north side.
The offer came after the Green Township department added daytime staffing from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Township residents in November approved a fire equipment levy, at which time the department began investing in personnel to use the equipment. Baird said township trustees authorized him to suggest the contract with Washingtonville to help cover personnel costs.
Also at the meeting, trustees scheduled the trick or treat and the Halloween parade for Saturday, Oct. 30, with the time to be determined.
The next regular trustees meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at the community building.
