PEORIA, ILL (HEART OF ILLIONIS) - Members of Peoria communities discussed whether short term rental homes should receive zone approval in their neighborhoods.
James Hinchee is a member of the Uplands Residential Association. At the Peoria planning and zoning hearing on Thursday he said he had some concerns about having short term rentals.
"This request for short term rental use should be denied. A number of older residents have expressed great discomfort with the parade of transient guest that have been occurring with these operations," Hinchee said.
Other neighbors complained of potential parking shortages, house maintenance issues, over crowding homes. Most homes that would house four or five people could now house over a dozen.
Miriam Meyer, a local Eureka resident, she saw first hand how Airbnb can benefit a neighborhood.
"I really don't have a problem with it I think it's good for the community. We need to increase our tax revenue." Meyer said.
After the meeting the vote went to the city council for final approval.
