COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - The city of College Station has passed an order that will require the use of face masks in all businesses. It will go into effect Monday at 6:00 a.m. and will end at 11:50 p.m. on Friday, July 10.

These are some of the main points from the order that you should know:

  • Businesses and establishments that violate the order can be fined up to $1,000 per day.
  • No civil or criminal penalty shall be imposed on individuals for failure to wear a face-covering.
  • All persons 10 years or older must wear a face covering, according to the CDC guidelines, over their nose and mouth when in a public place where it is difficult to keep six feet away from other people or working in areas that involve close proximity with coworkers.

FACE COVERINGS DO NOT NEED TO BE WORN IN THE FOLLOWING CIRCUMSTANCES:

  • When exercising outside or engaging in physical activity outside;
  • When driving alone or with passengers who are part of the same household as the driver;
  • When doing so poses a greater mental or physical health, safety, or security risk;
  • When pumping gas or operating outdoor equipment;
  • While in a building or participating in an activity that requires security surveillance, screening, or identification, for example, banks;
  • When consuming food or drink;
  • or when receiving a service where a face covering would impair the service.

According to the city council blog, the council offered its unanimous support on the move. Nearly a dozen residents spoke after a presentation on the issue at Thursday’s city council meeting and 61 submitted written comments to the city hall. Brazos County Judge Duane Peters said Monday in a news briefing that he didn’t believe we were at a point where a county-wide mandate would be necessary. He is scheduled to meet on Friday with both mayors of Bryan and College Station to further discuss the matter.

The only county in the Brazos Valley that has signed a county-wide mandate requiring masks in public places is Milam County.
