Earlier this month, Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted on all charges for fatally shooting two men and wounding another at a Black Lives Matter protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2020. In the weeks since, he has been on something of an alt-right victory tour, appearing on Tucker Carlson’s show, where he had the nerve to say he “supports the BLM movement and peaceful demonstrating,” among other questionable claims; visiting Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago; and having lunch with a former Bachelor contestant who may be his new publicist.

What’s next for Rittenhouse? He has been offered internships with Republican representatives Paul Gosar and Matt Gaetz, but apparently he would like to return to a quiet collegiate life instead. In his interview with Carlson, Rittenhouse, who takes online classes from Arizona State University, said he hopes to attend classes on campus in person and “live a quiet, stress-free life and be free of any intimidation or harassment and just go on with my life as a normal 18-year-old kid attending college.”

It sounds, however, as though his classmates have other ideas. Last week, Students for Socialism ASU, an activist group at Arizona State, tweeted out a flyer of Rittenhouse wielding a semi-automatic rifle emblazoned with the words “KILLER OFF OUR CAMPUS.” The organization also tweeted a list of demands to the university, including withdrawing Rittenhouse from ASU and releasing a statement condemning both him and white supremacy.

ASU’s administration hasn’t yet responded to the demands. A spokesperson for the university told The Hill that Rittenhouse isn’t currently enrolled in classes and denied that he had gone through the ASU admissions process, though the school did previously confirm that Rittenhouse was an online, non-degree-seeking student.

According to Students for Socialism ASU, the administration granted Rittenhouse “compassionate withdrawal” from classes during his murder trial. The State Press reported Rittenhouse plans to return to classes next semester — though if he does, he may not find the warm welcome he hopes for.

“Even with a not-guilty verdict from a flawed ‘justice system,’ Kyle Rittenhouse is still guilty to his victims and the families of those victims,” Students for Socialism ASU’s flyers read. “Join us to demand from ASU that these demands be met to protect students from a violent, blood-thirsty murderer.” A protest against Rittenhouse is planned for this Wednesday.
