PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - 67-year-old Germaine McNeil won’t let the Florida heat or her age stop her from lending a hand to those in need.

“Instead of carrying four boards, I might carry two boards. But God gives me all the strength that I need,” McNeil said.

McNeil volunteers with 516 Project, a non-profit Christian construction ministry out of Virginia.

“We do a lot of roof repairs, wheelchair ramps, all sorts of things just to kind of help people build access to hope and have that love and security in their homes and know that they have a safe place to live,” 516 Project President James Roberson said.

Saturday, the group teamed up with NorthStar Church in Callaway to help fix up three Panama City homes.

“These gentlemen here in this house need some steps. As you can see, they have a cinder block right now to get in and out. So, we’re going to provide them with some safe steps to get in and out,” volunteer Joe Scully said.

Volunteers came together from all across the country with one goal: sharing the love of Christ with people as they help them rebuild their homes.

“Hopefully they will see Jesus in us. We can be a blessing, a joy to them,” McNeil said.

516 Project has helped hundreds of families in Virginia, North Carolina, and Alabama. Group leaders said they hope to serve more Florida residents in the coming year.
