Coming off arguably the best season of his career, Derek Carr is going to somehow need to be even better in 2021 if the Raiders want to make the playoffs. But does he have enough talent around him to get the Raiders back into the tournament? That is among the biggest questions surrounding the team entering the 2021 season.

In a recent article by Bleacher Report, they ranked each team’s supporting cast on offense. Carr’s help came in at No. 21, which is a significant dropoff from their ranking of No. 14 at this time last season. Here is a snippet of their thoughts on Carr’s supporting cast, specifically the wide receivers:

“There is nothing resembling a No. 1 wideout on the roster, and 2020 top option Nelson Agholor left for New England in free agency. Hunter Renfrow is a terrific slot receiver, and Henry Ruggs III is a blazing fast but inconsistent deep threat. The Raiders also added John Brown and Willie Snead IV this offseason. Still, this is a collection of complementary pass-catchers with Renfrow the only wideout to top 500 yards last season.”

It’s true that the Raiders don’t have a traditional No. 1 receiver on their roster, but they do have an elite tight end in Darren Waller. For the most, Waller functions as the team’s top receiver and the rest of the offense is built around him.

The Raiders don’t necessarily need to add more talent to their wide receiver room as it isn’t a big issue. Their biggest problem is the offensive line, which saw a significant amount of turnover this offseason. If that unit can improve, there is no reason why this offense shouldn’t finish inside the top-10 once again.

And yet, you can still make the case that Carr has the least amount of talent surrounding him of all the starting quarterbacks in the AFC West. Every other team has a proven wide receiver (or two) along with better offensive lines. Somehow, Carr will need to elevate the talent around him once again for this team to be competitive.
