SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - With the colder weather Siouxland has seen and may continue to see in the coming days… The Siouxland Soup kitchen is one resource any in need can utilize.

Leaders with the soup kitchen said they'll serve around 125 people a night.

Soup Kitchen manager Matt Bradley said residents from the warming shelter come down in the evening but dinner is open to anyone in need of a hot meal.

He added while they were just doing to-go meals for a while, they have reopened for people to come in and sit down to eat.

"It's nice to have people to be able to come back in and get warm. Get up out of the cold. And sit down and have a hot fresh meal that's made daily for them.

Meals usually consist of some sort of protein, with vegetables and fruits and they make individually portioned snack backs as well.

"They're all very gracious that we're here doing this for them. We rely 100% on donations and volunteers every day. I'd be impossible without the people that come in and help," said Matt Bradley, Soup Kitchen Manager.

With the pandemic, Bradley said even with Governor Reynolds lifting restrictions, they try to keep as safe as they can.

"We try to keep them as separated as much as possible. But with the warming shelter residents, they're around each other all day as is and on the bus. It gets a little bit chaotic in here at times at first when they come down but we try to keep them distanced as much as we can," said Bradley.

The Soup Kitchen also has a section called Erik's Closet where people can pick out clothing items and toiletries and other winter essentials they might need.

"Hats, gloves, blankets. Pretty much anything we know can be used we have stored up there for them. They come in, do a little bit of shopping and come back and have a hot meal," said Bradley.

Those interested in donating to the Soup Kitchen can go to their Facebook page to see what items need.

"We update quite often on there. Just to show things that we're in need of or clothing items. It's usually the best way to get a hold of us," said Bradley.
