Apparently, our H-E-B heroes are getting a lot of grief from shoppers.
VICE's Hannah Smothers reports that for months, customers who refuse to wear masks in the stores during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic have bullied H-E-B employees to the point where they don't feel safe enforcing the statewide mask order.

“Many [customers] have become verbally and even physically abusive in some stores," a Houston H-E-B manager told VICE. "I have been personally told by customers that H-E-B does not honor the rights they fought for in the war, told they have medical concerns with masks, and I was violating their rights and HIPAA laws. We offer masks and inform customers of the [county] ordinance in place. However, when it comes to making them leave, due to the way many have reacted, we have stopped doing so. Our safety is priority, we do not want our leaders at risk for the abuse we have all taken the last several months.”
We already know this has been an existing issue for months. Many a video exists of some patrons refusing to put on masks, arguing or threatening to call the cops while a weary manager tries to defuse the situation. Back in September, one woman posted a tear-filled Facebook Live video after she said a Cedar Park H-E-B refused to let her check out because she wasn't wearing a mask.
I don't know who is bullying H-E-B managers and employees, but I just want to talk. It can't be easy working in a grocery store during a pandemic, even without getting yelled at.
If you feel the urge to not wear a mask and go yell at some poor 20-year-old working at your local H-E-B, take a breath and just use Curbside. It's free right now, and no one has to see you disrespect the great Texas institution that is H-E-B.
