Pete Davidson talks 'political correctness' in comedy, says he won't perform at colleges - USA TODAY

If you were hoping to see Pete Davidson perform at another college, the comedian has some bad news for you.

The "Saturday Night Live" cast member opened up to Paper Magazine about why he refuses to perform stand-up at a university after this year and "political correctness in comedy."

According to Davidson, college shows are "really hard."

"I refuse to do a college after this year 'cause it's like you're just setting yourself up for trouble," he said in the interview published Thursday. "Comedy is just, like, getting destroyed. Stand-up's about to be about, like, sneakers. Like, 'Hey, everyone like sneakers?' "

He continued: "You can't talk about anything. You can't. The second you open your mouth and have an opinion, you lose money today. And I don't think that's a safe place to live in."

When asked if he ever says anything in his stand-up routine he regrets, Davidson replied, "Nothing I ever say is coming from a hateful place."

"And you can't know what's funny until you try it, you know?" he added. "But anything I've ever said onstage or made a joke about, I don't regret it. I mean, some jokes I'm like, 'Welp, that joke sucked.' You know? But I'm never like, 'Aw, (expletive)!' 'Cause there are times I try things that I think are ridiculous and they work. And that's what sucks about political correctness in comedy, I think that you need freedom."

The 25-year-old comedian stirred controversy in August, when he halted his stand-up routine at the University of Central Florida to unload an expletive-filled rant against students who had their phones out during the show.

In a video shared on YouTube, Davidson can be heard tearing into the audience.

"If you film everything but not enjoy the show for (expletive) an hour, then like, I don't gotta be here for that," he said. "You can just give them their money back because I don't give a (expletive)."

Davidson continued to insult the location of the school that was hosting him.

"So like, whenever somebody else comes to your (expletive) town and wants to perform and is exhausted and flies all the way to the middle of (expletive) nowhere to do jokes for you, you little privileged (expletives), don't (expletive) ruin the show for people who actually want to be here," he said.

His comments elicited some laughs from the crowd, but Davidson wasn't done. When the audience began to applaud, he cut them off.

"Don't clap, that's the problem. That's what's (expletive) up about our generation," he said. "That's why we're embarrassing."

He called the audience "idiots" and used a derogatory term for disabled people.
