Disney Blames The Disney+ App Not Amazon for Its Recent Issues - Cord Cutters News, LLC

Disney+ logoToday at the Recode’s Code Media conference in Los Angeles, Disney’s Direct-To-Consumer Chairman Kevin Mayer opened up about the recent issues with the Disney+ app. According to Mr. Mayer, the app was the issue, not Amazon’s hosting. “It had to do with the way we architected the app,” Kevin Mayer said.

Kevin Mayer also went on to say that the 10 million sign-ups at launch “surprised” him. Many had wondered if Disney expected this growth and from the looks of it, both Mr. Mayer and Amazon were surprised by how popular Disney+ has become.

At launch, the Disney+ app faced several outages resulting in videos not playing and subscribers being unable to load sections of the app. Some had speculated these issues came from Amazon’s hosting, but Disney+ has taken responsibility. Most of these issues ended up being addressed within hours. Now it seems that Disney+ may have been overwhelmed by the vast number of people trying to signup for the service.

Since launch though, the Disney+ app has proven to be very stable and Disney has slowly been adding new features to the app. With 10 million new subscribers you can see why Disney+ decided to slowly roll out features.
