What We Want to Happen Today 10/3 - The Blue Testament

sambitasa.blogspot.com

Another day of MLS action with a kick off before noon central time in New York City, and some late night action in Seattle. In between there’s the Sporting KC game against the Houston Dynamo at Children’s Mercy Park. Here’s what KC fans should be looking to root for in those other games today.

Nashville at NYCFC

What we want to happen: draw

A draw is probably the best result for KC here as while it allows New York City FC to close within nine points, it still keeps Nashville SC behind KC in the single table standings. A win by either team puts them closer (or in Nashville’s case tied) with KC.

Columbus at Philadelphia

What we want to happen: draw

A win by the Columbus Crew wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world either as they sit 15 points behind KC with seven games to play. Especially if KC get a win against Houston, as it would keep Columbus 15 points back with only 18 points left available to them. As the table stands now heading into today’s games though having neither team close the gap is probably the best thing right now.

Chicago at Toronto

What we want to happen: does not matter

Neither team can catch Kansas City on points so in that regard the game doesn’t matter for KC. Arguments can be made for either team to win to stay alive given their remaining scheduling and keeping them alive in the playoff hunt so that they’re fighting hard, but for this game specifically it has no effect on KC’s playoff run.

Miami at Portland

What we want to happen: Miami win

Inter Miami can still catch KC in the single table as they have 32 points from 26 games, but they’re far enough back that the Portland Timbers position just six points back of KC is the bigger threat. The Timbers have 43 points from 27 games and depending on KC’s result against Houston could cut the deficit to KC to just three points with a win against Miami.

LAFC at LA

What we want to happen: draw

Los Angeles FC sit on 33 points while the LA Galaxy sit on 38 both in 27 games so an argument can be made for an LAFC win, especially if KC defeats Houston. The desire for the game tomorrow between these two teams is based on the standings as they are this morning, not dependent on any result that KC has.

Colorado at Seattle

What we want to happen: draw

These two teams both have a game in hand on Sporting with the Colorado Rapids one point behind KC and the Seattle Sounders two points again. With that in mind a draw is the best result for KC as both teams would gain a point, but they’ve each leave two points out there.
