Scherzer believes Dodgers get Giants 'where they want them' in NLDS - NBC Sports Bay Area

The NL West title race couldn't have been closer, with the 107-win Giants edging the 106-win Los Angeles Dodgers on the final day of the regular season.

Over the final 29 games of the season, the Giants went 23-6 and the Dodgers 22-7. The Dodgers were 43-13 since the start of August and picked up just two games on the Giants.

With the Giants nipping the Dodgers for the division crown, LA was sent to the NL Wild Card Game against the red-hot St. Louis Cardinals, where Chris Taylor's walk-off home run sent the Dodgers to the NLDS and a date with the rival Giants.

A date that Dodgers ace Max Scherzer is looking forward to, evidently.

"This is postseason baseball, things can turn on a dime," Scherzer said after the Dodgers' 3-1 win over the Cardinals. "They've been a great team. They beat us and won the division. Now, we have an opportunity to get them where we want them. That's to win in the postseason. They are a great and talented team -- obviously, they showed that throughout the season -- so it's going to take everything from us to be able to win the series."

Scherzer has been great since coming to the Dodgers in a trade-deadline deal with the Washington Nationals. However, the ace has struggled recently, including going just 4 1/3 innings against the Cardinals while struggling with his command and needing 94 pitches to record 13 outs. However, it's a testament to Scherzer that he surrendered only one run despite those issues.

That being said, Scherzer has been shaky over his past three starts. In his last two regular-season outings, the veteran right-hander allowed five runs in five innings against the Colorado Rockies and five runs in 5 1/3 innings against the San Diego Padres.

The Giants won't see Scherzer until Game 3 on Monday night at Dodger Stadium. Los Angeles will start Walker Buehler in Game 1 at Oracle Park and Julio Urias in Game 2, while the Giants will counter with Logan Webb and Kevin Gausman, respectively.
