COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The holidays are a moment to spend time with our families, and make new memories, but it’s a luxury not everyone has.
There are multiple families here in Colorado Springs who can’t make those memories anymore, and are desperate for answers.
One of those families is that of Robert Collins.
“He was just a humongous goof. He was the goofiest person.” Lanesha Collins and Raionah Walk, Robert’s sisters said. “He is the most genuine and loyal person.”
The family of Robert Collins only has their memories now. He was tragically killed in May at a vigil in Memorial park. The drive-by shooting sent shockwaves through the crowd, already mourning a loss. Police still don’t know who pulled the trigger.
“The last couple of months I have been living in a paranoid state. I’m at a stop light and I don’t know if the person next to me is the person that murdered my husband,” his wife Sirena Collins said.
Robert’s wife, Sirena and his sisters say the pain of life without him is hard enough, but the pain of the unknown makes the situation almost unbearable.
A pain the Remillard family knows all too well.
“I don’t know if there could ever be closure because we will always miss her,” Rhonda Remillard said. Rhonda’s daughter, Samantha Morgan Remillard was also killed this year.
Police say Samantha Morgan Remillard was shot and killed last may near Austin Bluffs. Her family says she was a mother of three, and was working on getting her life back on track. Now, seven months later--her family still doesn’t know what happened and police haven’t named a suspect.
“If she was in an accident, that would be different, if she would’ve had a heart attack that would’ve been different,” Samantha’s father, Dennis said. “But she was murdered, she didn’t deserve to be murdered.”
Dennis has his daughters ashes draped around his neck to keep her close--constant reminder that her killer is out there.
“We want to know who did it, and we want to see them convicted and do life,” he said.
Two murders, and two families lives forever changed, left only with memories and a desperate need for justice.
“If you have any heart...think of my children, think of my three-year-old daughter who was two and had to watch her daddy die,” Sirena Collins said.
The Colorado Springs Police Department says they are still investigating and they add they want closure for the families too. They added they are actively working both cases and no arrests have been made.
