GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. -- Family members of Xzavier Hill drove hours to plea for justice outside the Goochland County Courthouse Saturday afternoon a week after the 18-year-old was fatally shot by Virginia State Police troopers.

“I want justice for my son, I want it for my son," Latoya Benton, Hill's mother, said.

Officials said a trooper tried to pull over Hill after radar clocked him going 98 mph along I-64 west near I-295 in Henrico County early Saturday, Jan. 9.

State police officials said Hill sped off at speeds topping 120 mph. When he attempted to make a u-turn, Hill ran off the left side of the interstate, before sliding into the median and becoming stuck, according to troopers.

When officials said two state troopers walked to Hill’s car and told him to get out and show his hands, state police said Hill displayed a gun and was shot by police.

“He reaches out of the car with his left hand. He turns his body around like this," Benton said.

Investigators said they did find a gun inside Hill's vehicle.

Benton, who said her family watched the dashcam video, believes her son never drew a weapon.

“My son says, 'OK, my door is open.' What more do y’all want him to say?" Benton asked.

Growing up in Stafford County, Benton said her son was an athlete and hard worker. She said he was on his way to Charlottesville to see his girlfriend the morning of the incident.

Benton also said her son helped with her business.

“I wouldn’t have my business without him," Benton said. "Every contract I got, my son went with me. Every job I had, my son went with me."

Benton hopes other parents do not have to experience the same loss and is calling for discipline for those involved.

“I want them to be fired," Benton said. "I want them to go to jail, period. I want them to be charged."

The two troopers, who were not injured, were placed on administrative leave, as is procedure, pending the outcome of the investigation, officials said.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, officials said.
