FREMONT COUNTY, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -

This Fremont County food bank is still giving to people in need, but is also in need of support. Rest assured when you make a call, or walk through the doors of this food bank, your information is kept confidential, and there’s no judgement involved.

“I give out to anybody, and if I see them on the street, I don’t say ‘I saw you at a food bank.’ So it’s basically a private thing,” emphasized Lloyd Eckstein, president of the food bank.

If someone needs food, they can call Lloyd and set a time up to visit the pantry to ensure privacy. He’s willing to help almost anytime, but he asks that people call after 6 a.m. and before midnight.

“As long as I can help them out and get them back on their feet. If they’ve got kids, help their kids. It’s just that the good Lord said, help people out,” stated Eckstein.

When asked what the motivation was for starting the pantry, he said that years ago, he injured his shoulder on the job, and received worker’s compensation. His family then moved across Iowa so he and his wife could go back to school. What happened next inspired him to help others at their low points.

“Worker’s compensation lost me, and for seven months we ate out of a trash can, living next to a river and my daughters used the church for a permanent base. Since then, if people need help, we try to help them, and maybe it’s crazy but i still do it,” noted Eckstein.

Eckstein started the food bank in 2011, and has had some donors, but this year has been especially rough, with even less donors. The staff have never taken a salary, but have had to dip into personal funds to make sure food stays on the shelves.

“Nobody gets any salary at all, all of the money that we get is for expenses like for food or the vehicle. The rest of the expenses comes out of my social security disability and my wife’s disability,” said Eckstein.

The Ecksteins also make and sell jewelry, repair and sell lawn mowers and small engines, and sells various items that are donated to raise money for the food bank. This weekend he’s holding a yard sale to benefit the pantry.

“Some furniture, we’ve got a bunch of dishes, stuff like that, little bit of antique, little bit of modern stuff,” mentioned Eckstein.

The yard sale to benefit the pantry is on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting at 8 a.m. It will be held rain or shine at 20 Gardens North Drive in Riverton. If you are in need of assistance, you can call the food bank at 307-463-0141.
